Young and Strange Delusionists West Palm Beach Concert reviews
Lackluster comedy performance.
I was excited to finally see one of their shows after knowing about Young and Strange Delusionists for some time. The best part of the show was the opening act comedian, who said she just flew in from LA. She deserves it, but I rarely give a one star review. Without pauses or referring to notes, despite apparently having just arrived, she was well prepared and delivered a quality performance.
She told a political joke very early in the show, and said that was her only one and she didn't have any more. Later in the show it seemed like she couldn't help herself and got back into political opinions. This received a mixed, uncomfortable response. She came across as someone living off her fame and going through the motions when Young and Strange Delusionists comes out. While some of the jokes were somewhat funny, there was never a moment where they roared with laughter. The jokes were mostly of the toilet humor variety, which is okay but others have done those kinds of jokes much better. She came out with a clipboard of jokes, which she put on the stool, and would pause repeatedly to refer to it without any subtlety.
I just can't think of any redeeming value in Young and Strange Delusionists' performance. Her performance seems to rely nearly entirely on her fame, mediocre toilet humor, and the audience agreeing with her political views. But for everyday audiences just looking to see a good comedy show, laugh, and have a nice time, there's little here to offer. I noticed some people leaving during the event and I considered leaving as well, because there was nothing really to stay for. The opening act comedian came across as more hungry and more eager to impress.
